Rabat – In the wake of the catastrophic earthquake that rocked Morocco’s Al Haouz region last week, the ride-sharing company InDrive has announced a one-week suspension of commission fees for drivers in the city of Marrakech.

InDrive typically deducts a 10% commission fee from each ride completed on their platform. However, in light of the recent earthquake and its profound impact on both drivers and their families in Marrakech, InDrive has chosen to temporarily waive the commission fee.

This means that drivers can now keep 100% of their earnings from each ride, providing an opportunity for them to earn more income during these trying times.

In a press release, InDrive stressed its commitment to supporting the affected community following the tragic earthquake.

Expressing condolences to the Moroccan people, InDrive’s Commercial Development Representative in Morocco Hamza Madrani shared the company’s heartfelt sympathy for the loss of life and challenges faced by the affected citizens.

“Our condolences go out to the Moroccan people. As a company, we deeply regret this loss and the hardships people are enduring,” he said.

Madradi added that InDrive’s decision to drop commission fees represents a “gesture of solidarity with the Moroccan people, especially the residents of Marrakech, who have been the hardest hit by the earthquake.”

The magnitude 7 earthquake has caused widespread destruction and significant suffering among the local population.

According to the latest data by Morocco’s Ministry of Interior, the disaster has claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people and injured thousands of others.

InDrive’s move is just one example of the many acts of support and solidarity  companies and organizations across Morocco offered in response to the earthquake.

For instance, Moroccan supermarket chain Marjane announced its intention to donate all its profit from sales related to aid for the affected individuals to the country’s Special Fund.
