Rabat – According to converging reports, the Moroccan player Azzedine Ounahi is not on good terms with his French club Olympique de Marseille (OM) as he has been benched by his coach Marcelino for several weeks.
The Moroccan international has reportedly started considering an exit from the club to regain some playing time and put an end to his frustration.
In OM’s last four games, the midfielder has not played a single minute despite being in excellent form.
His absence from the goalless draw against Toulouse on September 17 raised further questions, angering Marseille’s fans and prompting the coach to comment on the situation.
“I have no problem with him, but I have to make choices and select players. I always put the players on the pitch who can be competitive, those who train the best,” the coach said.
“He’s been good, but I have to choose players. What he has to do is continue to put in the effort in training every day to convince us and show that he can be one more player to use in matches,” declared Marcelino.
Ounahi had reportedly already asked to leave during the summer transfer window but was ultimately not sold, despite several requests.
The Moroccan international granted victory to his national team during the international break last week by scoring a goal against Burkina Faso, as part of the preparations for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
His goal came in the 36th minute from an assist by Amine Adli.
