Morocco Aims to Host 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup

Having secured the rights to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and jointly organize the 2030 Men’s FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal, Morocco is now setting its eyes on a bid to host the 2031 Women’s World Cup in 2031.

Morocco Aims to Host 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup

Rabat – Having secured the rights to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and jointly organize the 2030 Men’s FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal, Morocco is now setting its eyes on a bid to host the 2031 Women’s World Cup in 2031.

The Moroccan government met with both chambers of the country’s parliament on October 26 at the House of Representatives to discuss holding a joint study meeting to explore the feasibility of a Moroccan bid to host the 2031 Women’s World Cup.

Fouzi Lekjaa, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and Delegate Minister for Budget, emphasized the benefits of having the nation host these competitions.

So far, only China and England have expressed interest in hosting the 2031 event.

However, the fact that an African country has never hosted the Women’s World Cup gives Morocco’s potential bid to become the first African nation to host the prestigious tournament a chance of succeeding.

China hosted both the inaugural event in 1991 and the 2007 edition. Other countries that have hosted the event include Sweden in 1995, the United States in 1999 and 2003, Germany in 2011, Canada in 2015, France in 2019, and Australia and New Zealand together in 2023.

The Atlas Lionesses took part in the last edition for the very first time in history, making it all the way to a historic Round of 16.

Since Morocco hosted the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which the Atlas Lioness finished as runners-up, the Moroccan football federation has made women’s football a top priority.

Meanwhile, FIFA has not yet announced the nation that will host the 2027 edition. The decision is expected to be announced next year on May 17.

While the bidding is open until December 8, only four bids have been made official so far — South Africa will be competing with Brazil, the US-Mexico duo, and the Belgium-Germany-Netherlands trio.
