Rabat – Canada has appointed Isabelle Valois as the new ambassador to Morocco, replacing former Canadian envoy Nell Stewart.

Last week, Valos took to her account on X, formerly Twitter, to express satisfaction with her appointment to the country, where she previously lived for over five years.

“I am honoured to be appointed Ambassador of Canada to Morocco, where I lived for more than 5 years and to which I am happy to return; a country I know well & love deeply,” she said.

She also emphasized her determination to consolidate and advance diplomatic ties between Canada and Morocco.

Valois worked as a counselor at the Canadian embassy to Morocco from 2011 to 2016.

She also served in several similar positions, including counselor for Iraq at the Canadian Embassy to Jordan and Iraq from 2009 and 2011.

According to the Canadian Government, Valois started her international career in Colombia and Malawi.

In Malawi, she was a program associate with UNICEF Malawi through the World University Service of Canada.

“She then worked in the non-governmental sector and served on various boards of directors,” a biographical note from the Canadian government reads.

She joined the Canadian International Development Agency in 2004, holding several positions in the MENA region.

Canada and Morocco share good diplomatic ties, with the two countries frequently stressing their determination to boost relations at different levels.

Canadian Senator George F. Fuey reiterated his country’s determination to boost ties  in April during a meeting with Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita

During the meeting, the Canadian official emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two countries, recalling that trade between the two continues to grow – particularly in the sectors of agriculture, aerospace, education, and green technology.
