Rabat – The newly appointed head coach of Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses Jorge Vilda has expressed his confidence in the potential of Moroccan women’s football to have a “bright and promising future.”

Vilda made the statement in a press conference at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Sale after the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FMRF) officially unveiled him as the new coach, replacing French coach Reynald Pedros.

He expressed his honor at being entrusted with this role by the FRMF, highlighting his eagerness to continue the work done by Pedros and his team, who managed to qualify for the knockout stages of the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

“This is a challenge we are excited to embrace with great enthusiasm and commitment,” he said, expressing his vision to construct a strong and competitive team.

The coach praised the “world-class” sports facilities in Morocco, particularly the Mohammed VI Football Complex, and stressed his determination to instill a playing philosophy tailored to the Atlas Lionesses.

“I have always admired the talent and passion of Moroccan footballers,” he added, noting that being part of the FRMF’s vision was a responsibility he accepted “with humility.”

According to Vilda, the Atlas Lionesses represent not only their country but also “all women striving to achieve their dreams.”

Reflecting on his career in Spain, he cherished the moments he had with the Spanish women’s national team, who won the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa commended the previous coaching staff for their efforts that helped the Moroccan national team advance to the World Cup’s Round of 16.

“Our ambition is realistic, simple, and clear — to progress and achieve even greater heights,” Lekjaa said.
