Rabat – Israel’s Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant, declared a “complete siege” on Gaza today, marking a significant intensification of the long-standing conflict in the region. The announcement comes as Gaza grapples with worsening living conditions under a crippling air, land, and sea blockade that has been in place since 2007.
As part of the new measures, Israeli authorities plan to cut electricity supplies to Gaza and block the entry of essential food and fuel. This decision has raised concerns about the well-being of Gaza’s more than 2 million residents, who already face severe shortages of water, electricity, medicines, and access to medical care, including surgical procedures.
To enforce this latest development, Israel has mobilized 300,000 army reservists to bolster its forces. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson, Hagar, confirmed this significant deployment, indicating a heightened state of readiness.
Reports indicate that Israeli air attacks have already targeted two refugee camps within the besieged Gaza Strip. Local media outlets reported that the “two massive raids” struck the Jabalia and al-Shati refugee camps. A mosque in al-Shati was also hit by Israeli airstrikes, causing widespread concern for civilian casualties.
The casualties from these attacks have been brought to Gaza City’s main hospital, Al-Shifa. According to health officials, the current death toll in Gaza stands at 508 Palestinians, while media reports suggest that more than 700 Israelis have also been affected by the escalating violence.
The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with growing calls for an immediate ceasefire and a return to negotiations to address the long-standing issues underlying the conflict. World leaders have expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation and have urged restraint from both sides.
