Rabat – Morocco Reaffirms Unwavering Support for Palestinian , reiterated Morocco’s unwavering position on the Palestinian issue and its rejection of one-sided actions that fuel extremism and violence.

The chief of Moroccan diplomacy made these comments during a joint press conference with Hussein Al-Sheikh, the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization.

During the press conference held on Friday, the Moroccan Minister stated: “Morocco’s position, as confirmed by King Mohammed VI, remains unchanged. The Palestinian issue is a fundamental and essential matter in Moroccan foreign policy.”

He also emphasized King Mohammed VI’s special interest in the Palestinian cause, citing his July speech in which he reiterated support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of their state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, ensuring security and stability in the region.

“Morocco’s vision is that peace is a strategic choice, and it supports all efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and just peace in accordance with international references, while respecting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people,” Bourita stressed. “Rabat will continue to actively participate in all efforts to reach a mutually agreed-upon solution to the Palestinian issue, in line with international and Arab references.”

The top Moroccan diplomat also pointed out that the region is going through a delicate situation characterized by ongoing attacks on Palestinian rights.

He emphasized that Morocco, in its strategic choice and its relations with Israel, has always been committed to being a force for regional prosperity and peace, working to counter extremism wherever it exists. Morocco opposes those who exploit the Palestinian issue for political gain without contributing to a political solution, Bourita argued.

“Morocco has been clear in its positions and stands with anyone who seeks a just and comprehensive peace in the region, taking into account the rights of the Palestinian people,” said Bourita, emphasizing that Rabat will always oppose any unilateral actions that undermine the prospects for peace, the two-state solution, or fuel extremism and violence in the region. Morocco will continue to push for practical political solutions.

The Moroccan Foreign Minister also highlighted the importance of not leaving room for extremism and political posturing, stressing the need to work towards recognizing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in the establishment of their state. He clarified that King Mohammed VI, from his position as the head of the Jerusalem Committee, has always been keen on preserving the legal and cultural status of Jerusalem.

King Mohammed VI has been actively supporting both diplomatic and field actions to support the resilience of the people of Jerusalem and maintain its Arab and Islamic identity through various funded projects, he said. The total amount allocated by Morocco to support Jerusalem amounts to approximately 80 million US dollars, covering various sectors including education, orphan support, scholarships, and more.

Hussein Al-Sheikh, Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, praised Morocco’s consistent and historical positions regarding the Palestinian issue, emphasizing the deep-rooted bilateral relations between Morocco and Palestine. These relations encompass national, political, economic, religious, cultural, and heritage dimensions, he argued.

Al-Sheikh added that the Palestinian leadership, led by President Mahmoud Abbas, values and appreciates Morocco’s unwavering and solid stances in support of Palestine and the Palestinian right to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy and international law, as well as agreements signed between Palestine and the Israeli government.

The Palestinian official further stated that Morocco, with its regional and international standing, is an active and influential actor in all political developments in the region and has a significant impact on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

He explained that Morocco enjoys great respect from the Palestinian people and leadership, and that Rabat, with all its capabilities and resources, plays a very important role in consolidating the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people through regional and international forums and platforms.

He concluded by mentioning that meetings will be held in the near future between Palestinian ministers and their Moroccan counterparts to discuss the necessity of launching intensive consultations among Arab countries to formulate a unified Arab position aimed at supporting the Palestinian cause and preserving the rights of Arabs in occupied Palestinian territories.
