Rabat – Comedian Gad Elmaleh raised €435,000 from the “Solidarité Maroc Show” he organized on October 2 at the Dome de Paris to support the ongoing post-earthquake relief efforts in Morocco.
In an Instagram story following the show, Elmaleh pledged to donate the entire proceedings of the show to Morocco’s special fund for earthquake relief.
The comedian thanked both the 4,500 people who attended the show and those who contributed remotely, reiterating his pledge to donate the entire proceedings of the show to “Special Fund 126,” which the Moroccan government set up in the immediate aftermath of the September 8 earthquake to provide essential relief to the victims and rebuild the ravaged villages and communities.
“It’s a special evening,” the French-Moroccan comedian said at the start of the October 2 show, adding that “it is the first time in a 28-year career that everyone has paid for a ticket, very expensive tickets, while we…well, it’s the first time we’re not going to get paid! It’s very special.”
“How much is that in dirhams?” Elmaleh asked the crowd as the conversion was displayed live. The screen displayed an amount of exactly MAD 4,711,811 million ($456,000).
Elmaleh was joined by other comedians, including Booder, Redouane Bougheraba, and Roman Frayssinet.
Other personalities included rapper ElGrandeToto and Dj Abdel, as well as TV presenter Rachid Allali.
