Rabat – Turkish security services carried out mass arrests a few days following a suicide bomb attack targeting the Interior Ministry buildings in Ankara.
Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday that police arrested at least 928 with alleged links to “Kurdish fighters.”
The arrest came following raids in 64 Turkish provinces.
The report stressed that Turkiye deployed over 13,400 security personnel for the security operations, where police seized over 1,000 illegal arms.
On Sunday, the Turkish government announced that two terrorists carried out a bomb attack in front of the Ministry of Interior buildings in Ankara.
One of the terrorists died in the explosion while the other was neutralized, the Turkish government said.
Two policemen caught slight injuries following the attack.
Turkish Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced today on X, formerly Twitter, that the government is “going after the organized criminal organizations that disturb the peace of our people and those who supply them with weapons.”
He also reiterated the county’s determination to bring everyone involved to justice.
During raids in Istanbul, police seized 179 pistols and 4 long barreled rifles.
Police forces conducted similar operations in several other cities and provinces, including Adana, Edirne, Izmir, Mersin, Diyarbakir, and Ankara.
The interior minister concluded his post by congratulating the security services for their “heroic” operations.
“Your fight against those who supply unlicensed weapons and weapon traffickers will continue with determination,” he added.
