Rabat – King Mohammed VI appointed Mohamed M’hidia as the governor of the Casablanca-Settat region and governor of the Casablanca prefecture during the Council of Ministers held in Rabat on Thursday.
Prior to the new appointment, M’hidia led major administrative regions in Morocco, including Marrakech, Rabat, Oujda, and Tangier.
Born on October 8, 1954, in Sidi Kacem, he pursued his higher education in France, where he earned an engineering degree from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Mines de Douai (1981). He also holds a degree from the Institut Superieur du Beton Arme (ISBA) in Marseille a year later.
M’hidia started his career at the Ministry of Equipment, where he held various positions of responsibility. He served as the provincial director of public works in the Azilal province between 1987 and 1993 and as chief of the division of maintenance, operation, road safety, and traffic between 1993 and 1996.
He also served later as the director of the Sala Al-Jadida Development Company between 1996 and 2002.
In 2002, King Mohammed VI appointed M’hidia as wali of the Skhirate-Temara prefecture. Five years later, M’hidia became the governor of the Taza-Al Hoceima-Taounate region and the governor of the Al Hoceima province.
In March 2010, he assumed the role of the governor of the Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz region and the governor of the Marrakech prefecture. During his tenure as governor of Marrakech, he received the Wissam du Trone (Order of Knight).
On May 10, 2012, M’hidia became governor of the Al Gharb region and the governor of the Oujda-Angad prefecture.
On June 25, 2017, he left the Al Gharb region to take up his position in the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region after King Mohammed VI appointed him as governor of the Rabat region and governor of the Rabat prefecture.
On February 7, 2019, the King appointed M’hidia as governor of the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region and the governor of the Tanger-Assilah prefecture.
On October 19, King Mohammed VI appointed M’hidia as wali of the Casablanca-Settat region and the governor of the Casablanca prefecture, replacing Said Ahmidouch, who held the position since February 2019.
