Rabat – The military wing of Hamas, known as the Al-Qassam Brigades, has announced the release of two American captives for humanitarian reasons. The group’s spokesperson, Abu Obaida, stated that this decision was made in response to mediation efforts by Qatar.
The release of the American captives, a mother and her daughter, is seen as an attempt to challenge the claims made by the Biden administration.
Abu Obaida’s statement emphasized that the Al-Qassam Brigades’ actions aimed to disprove what they referred to as “false and baseless claims” made by the United States and its leadership.
The two American captives have been identified as Judith Raanan, 59, and her daughter, Natalie Raanan, 17, by Israeli authorities, as reported by various news outlets. Their release comes as Israel continues its aggressive campaign of unrelenting and indiscriminate in the Gaza Strip.
Since the October 7 attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, the Israeli military has carried out a series of airstrikes on Gaza, killing, injuring, and displacing tens of thousands. According to reports, at least 4,137 Palestinians have lost their lives in these Israeli strikes.
