Rabat – UNICEF has reported a tragic 2,360 fatalities and 5,364 injuries among the children of Gaza, equating to over 400 children either killed or injured every day as a result of Israeli attacks.

The organization labeled this crisis as a “growing stain on our collective conscience,” appealing for an urgent ceasefire to allow access to humanitarian assistance.

UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Adele Khodr said that “the killing and maiming of children, abduction of children, attacks on hospitals and schools, and the denial of humanitarian access constitute grave violations of children’s rights.”

She urgently appealed to all parties involved to agree to a ceasefire, allow humanitarian access, and release all hostages.

Khodr underlined that in times of war, there are rules that must be followed to protect civilians, especially children.

While Gaza bore the brunt of the Israeli offensive, the West Bank has not been spared from this alarming surge in casualties, with nearly a hundred Palestinians losing their lives, including 28 children, and at least 160 children sustaining injuries.

Even before the new cycle of violence began on October 7, children in the West Bank were already “grappling with the highest levels of conflict-related violence in two decades,” UNICEF added.

Khodr said that “the rate of death and injuries of children is simply staggering,” warning that the continuation of this crisis, without easing tensions and allowing humanitarian aid, including food, water, medical supplies, and fuel, could result in a daily rise in the death toll.

Israel’s cutting of essential services to Gaza, including fuel and electricity, has rendered many hospitals inoperational. The lives of over 100 newborns in neonatal intensive care units, some reliant on mechanical ventilation, are at risk due to the interrupted power supply, UNICEF warned.
