Rabat – Senegal’s President Macky Sall has underscored the significance of his country’s relationships with Morocco, as well as other traditional allies.

Speaking before the 9th edition of the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa, Sall described Senegal’s partnerships with allies such as Morocco, the US, and France as “particular, ancient, and in need of consolidation.”

Sall praised the role of diplomats in nurturing ties with Morocco, highlighting the country as Senegal’s primary economic partner on the African continent, with Senegal being the first country to enter into a reciprocity agreement with Morocco.

Relationships with Senegal’s traditional partners, he stressed, are not only rooted in tradition but also require strengthening to adapt to the evolving dynamics of a globalized world.

Sall pointed out the commitment to maintaining “traditional friendships” while simultaneously embracing new currents in the era of globalization, aiming to derive maximum benefits from relations.

Morocco and Senegal have developed and maintained age-old relations in various areas of economic, political, cultural and spiritual cooperation.

The two-day event saw participation from several international dignitaries, including the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, and the Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau Geraldo Jaoa Martins.

The forum witnessed the presence of foreign ministers from Japan, Kosovo, Turkey, Germany, and Rwanda, alongside members of the Senegalese government and the diplomatic corps, including Morocco’s Ambassador to Senegal Hassan Naciri.
