Rabat – In the face of relentless Israeli attacks and a military blockade, nearly 400,000 individuals have evacuated northern Gaza, seeking refuge in the south, while a defiant 807,000 remain steadfast in their homes despite the ongoing onslaught by the Israeli army, as reported by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.

The northern regions of the Gaza Strip have borne the brunt of a 42-day-long devastating war, marked by intense aerial bombardments that have razed entire neighborhoods. Official Palestinian sources reveal a grim toll.

Since October 7, Israeli airstrikes have razed entire neighborhoods, claiming the lives of 11,500 Palestinians, including 4,710 children and 3,160 women, while leaving 29,800 others injured, as reported by Palestinian authorities on Wednesday.

“The barbaric brutality of the Israeli occupation bombardment which led to mass murdering of civilians in their own homes and tremendous destruction of residential buildings, and of all civil facilities, including hospitals, schools, places  of worship, bakeries, facilities,” the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics emphasized.

Despite the dire circumstances, a significant portion of the population in the northern governorates, comprising localities like Umm al-Nasr, Beit Lahia, Beit Hanoun, Jabalia, and Al-Shate’ Camp, remains resilient, refusing to abandon their homes.

The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics estimates that before the conflict, 1.2 million Palestinians lived in the northern and central regions of Gaza, with 807,000 still holding their ground in the face of adversity.

Of this population, approximately 152,000 households, representing two-thirds of the residents in the northern governorates, have chosen to remain in their homes.

Meanwhile, around 400,000 individuals, constituting about a third of the population of the northern governorates, have been displaced to the central and southern areas of Gaza Strip.

The figures compiled by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, using data from Palestinian telecommunications companies, the Ministry of Telecom and Information Technology, the Palestinian Household Expenditure and Consumption Survey, and the Household Survey on Information and Communications Technology, underscore the gravity of the situation.

As Israel escalates its genocidal campaign in Gaza, the plight of these innocent Gazans serves as a poignant reminder of the profound human cost of Israel’s decades-long occupation, oppression of Palestinians.
