Rabat – Regional police forces at the Guerguerat crossing in southern Morocco arrested five individuals between the ages of 21 and 52 for smuggling golds as well as illegal drugs used for cosmetic and sexual purposes.
The arrests were carried out in two different operations, the first of which saw them arrest four Moroccan citizens in a car coming from Mauritania. Subsequent inspections found them to be in possession of 70 kilograms of Maassel, a harmful tobacco mix.
Authorities also found considerable amounts of dangerous cosmetics and sexual drugs.
The second operation saw the police force arrest another Moroccan citizen in possession of eight unauthorized gold bars, with a weight of over 10 kilograms.
The arrested individuals are now undergoing judicial enquiries to reveal other details surrounding the international smuggling operations and any possible accomplices.
Earlier this week, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) thwarted an attempt to smuggle over a ton of the Chira drug at the Tangier Med port.
The drugs were found onboard an international transport truck driven by a person of Moroccan descent.
