Rabat – Boeing’s Mesa factory in Arizona has commenced production of the first Apache AH-64E helicopter, part of a 24-unit order destined for the Royal Moroccan Air Forces (FAR).
This development follows a 2020 equipment agreement between the United States and Morocco, making the North African country the 17th country to deploy this advanced combat helicopter.
Christina Upah, Vice President of Attack Helicopter Programs at Boeing Mesa, underlined the strategic significance of these helicopters for Morocco, saying that it will “enhance their defense forces for years to come.”
“Boeing’s partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco spans decades, and I am proud the Apache is now part of this legacy,” she added, underlining that it is “the world’s most advanced, proven attack helicopter.”
Preparations are underway at the Khouribga military base to accommodate Apache squadrons starting from late 2024 into early 2025, as reported by the “Far-Maroc” forum.
The report said that the Apache is known for its “combat fictiveness and is equipped with cutting-edge military technologies.”
According to Boeing, the helicopter is equipped with an open systems architecture including the latest communications, navigation, sensor, and weapon systems.
In addition, its improved Modernized Target Acquisition Designation System provides “day, night, and all-weather target information, as well as night vision navigation capability.”
Alongside air and land operations, the helicopter’s Fire Control Radar has been updated to operate in a maritime environment.
The company will deliver the new Apaches under a contract with the US Army through the US government’s Foreign Military Sales process.
