Rabat – Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Todd Robinson will make working visits to both Morocco and Algeria from November 12-21.
A readout from the State Department said on Monday that the visits aim to discuss “key initiatives and to advance shared interests of security-stability and economic prosperity.”
During the visit to Morocco, Robinson is expected to engage in talks with senior officials, including in the security and justice sector, to discuss “effective justice systems” and their role in boosting good governance.
The visit also seeks to reiterate the US’ commitment in supporting Morocco to enhance legal frameworks as well as to improve law enforcement capabilities.
Robinson’s visit comes as part of the advanced bilateral ties between Rabat and Washington D.C., which both frequently reiterate their determination to boost cooperation at all levels, including security.
The commitment was renewed during the session of the Africa Working Group under the Morocco-US Strategic Dialogue held in October in Washington.
During the meeting, Morocco and the US reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing their strong and enduring partnership on the continent, with both countries determined to step up efforts to promote regional stability, security, and prosperity.
Morocco and the US also cooperate in other sectors, including trade. The two countries are connected through a Free Trade Agreement, also known as the FTA, which has been in effect since 2006.
According to the Office of the US Trade Representative, trade of US goods and services with Morocco totaled $6.8 billion in 2022, while exports stood at $4.5 billion, with imports at $2.3 billion.
