Rabat – Wydd’s head coach Adil Ramzi told the Moroccan news website Le360 today that his team’s goal is to win the African Football League’s inaugural championship.
As the Casablanca-based club prepares to take on South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, Ramzi vowed: “We want to win this title and offer it to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, as well as to all Moroccans.”
He added, “Everyone is fully aware of the responsibility we bear. We have a clear chance of making history.”
Describing the long journey to South Africa, where his team is scheduled to play this weekend, the coach said: “Our journey went smoothly. We arrived on time. While we are used to arriving two days before each match, we preferred to have an extra day to adapt and prepare as best we could.”
Wydad will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the African Football League final on November 12 at 2 p.m. Moroccan Time at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in South Africa.
Wydad defeated the South African club 2-1 in the first leg in Casablanca, advancing a step closer to winning the continental title.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Moroccan club will be able to build on their first-leg victory against a motivated opponent playing on home soil.
