The White House has announced that Israel has agreed to a daily four-hour pause in Gaza.
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby confirmed the news today, saying that the four-hour pause will be implemented in northern Gaza, beginning Thursday.
The White House has expressed satisfaction with the decision, describing it as a “step in the right direction.”
Meanwhile, converging reports have indicated that the pause seeks to allow people to flee the surging hostilities between Israeli occupation forces and Hamas militants.
According to Kirby, Israel informed the US that there will be no military operations for the duration of the pause.
“The timing will be announced three hours before the pause begins each day,” CBS News retorted, quoting a senior Israeli official who also confirmed the news of the four-hour daily pause.
Earlier today, media reports also recalled Joe Biden’s remarks in which he claimed to have asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu three days ago to agree to a pause to allow for smooth hostage negotiations.
While the US announcement of a four-hour daily pause is meant to assuage growing criticism of Israel’s murderous campaign in Gaza, the terms of the decision reveal that the Israeli regime continues to reject a full-fledged humanitarian ceasefire that would end its genocidal war on defenseless Palestinians.
The news of a daily pause comes as the US and other leading Western countries have expressed unwavering support for Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, arguing that the Jewish state is engaged in a “self-defense war” against “terrorists.”
In particular, the US has repeatedly dismissed calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, arguing that this would only serve Hamas.
To date, Israel’s murderous Gaza campaign has killed over 10,500 Palestinians, including 4,000 children and hundreds of thousands of elderly and women.
