Moroccan Taekwondo Team Claims Seven Gold Medals in Abidjan

Rabat – Morocco’s national taekwondo team won a total of eleven medals, including seven gold, one silver and three bronze, at the African Championships held in Abidjan, the capital of Côte d’Ivoire, between November 5 and 6.

At the end of two days of intense fights at the Alassane Ouattara Ivorian-Korean ICT and Cultural Sports Center in Abidjan, Moroccan athletes once again confirmed their dominance in continental taekwondo.

On the first day of competition, two of the seven gold medals went to Morocco’s Ayoub Bassel (87 kilograms) and Fatima-Ezzahra Aboufaras (73 kilograms).

And on the final day of the tournament, the remaining medals went to Moroccans Haitam Zarhouti (-74 kilograms), Soufiane Elasbi (87 kilograms), Soukaina Sahib (46 kilograms), Oumaima El Bouchti (53 kilograms) and Omayma Boumh (73 kilograms).

With this performance, the Moroccan team took first place in the men’s competition, ahead of Egypt and Niger, and first place in the women’s competition, ahead of Côte d’Ivoire and Egypt.

Morocco achieved a similar feat last year when the country’s Taekwondo team dominated the men’s and women’s overall standings at the 2022 African Games with 15 medals.

In the regional competition held in Kigali, Rwanda from July 14-17, the team took home eight gold medals, three silvers, and four bronzes.
