Rabat – Moroccan Transport Minister Mohammed Abdeljalil, and his Egyptian counterpart Kamel al-Wazir, sealed a series of agreements for bilateral cooperation in the transport sector on Sunday in Cairo.

The agreements were signed at the fifth edition of TransMEA 2023, the Middle East and Africa’s premier smart transport and logistics forum.

The two signed a memorandum of understanding with a pronounced focus on road safety, aiming to champion scientific research, bolster existing skill sets, and facilitate the exchange of experiences.

The MoU also paves the way for close partnerships in critical areas such as road safety management, strategy formulation, and capacity building.

The second agreement focuses on the railway sector, offering a comprehensive framework for bilateral cooperation, with both nations pledging to take constructive steps to intensify discussions on shared concerns regarding railway transport.

The partnership covers a wide range of facets of the rail ecosystem, including network expansion, rolling stock, rail engineering, signaling, and strengthening management systems.

The final agreement was another memorandum of understanding concerning the mutual recognition of crew certificates in maritime transport.

Both countries have committed to implementing the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping, which aims to enhance the safety and efficiency of maritime transportation between the two nations.

The agreements underscore Morocco and Egypt’s aims to amplify their alliance in the domains of transport, road safety, railway transportation, and maritime logistics.
