Rabat – The Nova Explorers team, representing the Active Labs center in Tanger, clinched this week the gold medal at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) held in Panama from November 7 to 9.

Nova Explorers distinguished themselves by securing the 3rd position in the Future Innovator Junior category with their project “Skylinker,” according to a statement.

Morocco was the only African country on the podium among more than 70 participating countries.

The Skylinker project is an initiative that uses drones to provide network access to disaster-stricken areas.

Making up the Nova Explorers team were 14-year-old Nour-el Houda, 11-year-old Nouha, 14-year-old Mariam (14 years old), and their coach Maha. The team received support from the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform.

LOOP For Science & Technology, the national organizer of the World Robot Olympiad in Morocco, warmly congratulated the Nova Explorers team on this historic achievement.

“The triumph inspires future generations to pursue their passion for robotics and technology,” organizers said in a statement. “We also express our deep gratitude to our partners Horizon Tangier Terminal SA (HTTSA) and La Marocaine Vie, whose invaluable support significantly contributed to this success.”

In the statement, LOOP For Science & Technology equally expressed “its gratitude” to Ambassador of Morocco to Panama, and her team, for their “invaluable support to the Moroccan delegation, thereby facilitating its participation and stay.”

Founded in 2018 by young Moroccan engineers and experts, the LOOP For Science & Technology is a Moroccan association with the objective of promoting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) among children and young people from underprivileged backgrounds.

The association is a partner of major international organizations such as FIRST, World Robot Olympiad Association, and serves as the national organizer for all their programs.
