Rabat – Moroccan international Youssef En-Nesyri equaled the record for the top Moroccan scorer in Spain’s La Liga, held by the “Black Pearl” Larbi Benbarek, after scoring on Monday and bringing his total to 58 goals.
Tied with Benbarek, En-Nesyri has become the top Moroccan scorer in the history of La Liga at the age of 26.
En-Nesyri’s goal came despite his team’s 2-1 defeat against Real Sociedad in the 14th matchday of the Spanish league, bringing his goal total this season to five.
En-Nesyri reduced the deficit in the 60th minute following a pass from Adria Pedrosa.
Real Sociedad’s two goals came from Marko Dmitrovic’s own goal in the fourth minute and Umar Sadiq in the 22nd minute.
After this defeat, Sevilla are now 15th with 12 points, while Real Sociedad are in fifth place with 25 points.
Between 1948 and 1953, Benbarek managed to score fifty-eight goals in La Liga for Atletico Madrid.
The Moroccan striker also broke the records held by Hakim Ziyech and Marouane Chamakh for goals scored in the Champions League, bringing his total to nine goals against eight for Ziyech and Chamakh.
