Rabat – Morocco’s Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) has fortified its digital security system in 2023, incorporating complementary digital platforms to benefit citizens, foreign residents, and police personnel.
In its annual report for the year 2023, the DGSN said it continued developing a digital infrastructure dedicated to administrative services, focusing on electronic identity documents.
This infrastructure facilitated services such as obtaining identity documents, residence permits, and administrative documents for citizens and foreign residents.
The report added that DGSN expanded collaboration with public and private service providers through partnerships and agreements that aimed to promote the use of the “Trust Third Party” platform for identity verification.
According to the report, the platform aimed to enhance citizen access to services while safeguarding personal data, enabling instant, secure identity verification for national electronic identity cardholders in various administrative and banking operations.
To further strengthen this system, the DGSN launched the “My Digital Identity” mobile application in 2023. The app allows citizens to create, monitor, and utilize their digital identity based on data from the National Electronic Identity Card (CNIE).
In addition, the digital portal “www.identitenumerique.ma” was introduced to provide citizens with digital identity services without the need to download a mobile app.
DGSN said it has been committed to sharing its expertise in digitization and data management with other entities.

In 2023, DGSN signed agreements with the Ministry of Health, the Moroccan Insurance Federation, the Ministry of Youth and Culture, and the Ministry of National Education, among others.
In addition, this year witnessed the continued implementation of DGSN’s strategy to extend CNIE services to all citizens. The directorate deployed mobile units to reach rural areas, resulting in 128,451 beneficiaries.
DGSN said it responded promptly to citizens’ requests, issuing 4,269,781 new-generation electronic national identity cards.
In addition, it issued 348,070 electronic identity cards for Moroccans living abroad, including 45,739 minors.
DGSN also introduced a secure nationwide telecommunications network, connecting 57 cities with optical fibers to enhance communication for security services.
In a move toward AI integration, the DGSN experimented with AI-based surveillance on urban and mobile police cameras for automatic vehicle license plate recognition. Using this technology in the cities of Casablanca and Agadir resulted in intercepting stolen vehicles and wanted individuals.
Looking ahead, the DGSN is developing AI software to identify individuals under search warrants.
