Rabat – Bukayo Saka, a star player for the English football club Arsenal FC, has helped build a container village for victims of the devastating earthquake that hit central Morocco on September 8, The Sun reported today.
The 22-year-old England winger donated 50 containers to a community in the Taroudant area, providing housing for 255 people, noted the British newspaper.
Of the 3,000 people who died in the tragedy, 42 were from the village Saka is trying to help with the help of the children’s medical charity BigShoe.
The charity shared on its official Instagram account a video showing this humanitarian assistance that put a smile on the villagers’ faces.
“Thanks to Bukayo Saka, they are now receiving help, have a roof over their heads again and a smile on their faces,” BigShoe said in its post.
According to The Sun, Saka began thinking about how he could help the displaced families as soon as he heard about the 6.8 magnitude quake that hit the Al Haouz region.
In a very short time, Saka said, they were able to provide a roof, some comfort and hope to victims who had lost everything due to circumstances beyond their control.
The containers offer electricity, a kitchenette, a bathroom, a shower, and a sleeping area.
“I hope that the 84 families and, above all, the 89 children in the containers can regain a piece of their everyday lives,” Saka stressed.
The Arsenal player has previously worked together with BigShoe to help people in need. Earlier this year, he helped build shelters for the earthquake victims in Turkey.
He also helped provide life-changing surgeries to 120 children in Nigeria. “In situations where people are fighting for survival, losing their homes or their loved ones, you become even more aware of the privileged situation you live in,” the player stated.

The earthquake left a profound impact on various provinces in central Morocco, claiming the lives of around 3,000 people.
Among the severely affected regions were Al Haouz, Taroudant, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Youssoufia, Tinghir, Azilal, and Agadir.
