Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch received today in Rabat Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Manuel Albares.
Albares arrived in Morocco as part of an official bilateral visit, which will see him hold meetings with senior officials in Rabat, including Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita.
During today’s meeting, Akhannouch and Albares emphasized the friendly bilateral ties between their two countries, as well as the “strategic partnership” endorsed by the e King Mohammed VI and King Felipe VI.
Akhannouch and Albaress also expressed satisfaction with the alignment of Spanish-Moroccan views on different issues, Moroccan news agency MAP reported without providing further details.
Prior to his visit, Albares emphasized the importance of ties between Morocco and Spain, stressing that maintaining relations with Rabat is a top priority in Spanish foreign policy.
“The strategic partnership between Morocco and Spain is now a multidimensional partnership because it encompasses all areas,” he said, recalling the roadmap adopted in April 2022 between Rabat and Madrid.
The roadmap was adopted during Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s visit to Morocco in April 2022, where he met with King Mohammed VI.
Albares also stressed the importance of trade relations between the two countries, pointing out that Morocco is Spain’s third largest trading partner outside the EU, surpassed only by the US and the UK.
He showed data detailing that trade exchanges between Morocco and Spain reached €20 billion.
“This partnership between the two countries is reflected above all by the trust we have in each other as strategic partners with very high-level political relations and increasingly strong human relations,” the Spanish FM stressed.
