Rabat – President of the Libyan High Council of State Muhammad Meftah Takala expressed today the council’s appreciation of the Moroccan position on the crisis in Libya during a joint press conference with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
The Inter-Libyan dialogue rounds held in Morocco “have laid the foundations of some institutions and put an end to the bloody conflict between the Libyan brothers,” Takala said during the joint conference.
He also stressed that Morocco has the capacity to advance the political process in Libya, adding that the country’s “balanced” position to the various actors in Libya is reassuring about the possibility of achieving positive results in the dialogue held in Morocco.
Morocco has been a prominent mediator between the parties in the Libyan crisis, hosting the Joint Commission (6+6) meetings for drafting electoral laws in Libya.
Takala said the commission is “tangible proof” of the consensus reached between Libyan partners to implement mutually accepted electoral laws.
Last month, the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily commended Morocco’s role in the establishment of a successful election in Libya.
“We are delighted with the results achieved thanks to Morocco’s help, and we hope that the Kingdom will continue to support the political process, especially as we are in the midst of implementing the organic election laws and their related agreements,” Bathily said during a meeting with Bourita.
Moroccan officials also took part in informal consultations held in September by Bathily concerning the crisis.
