Rabat – Munich is the top spot for Moroccan international students in Germany in 2024, according to the latest report by the website Studying-in-Germany.org.

While Munich is expensive for students, ranking second in cost of living, and students should “budget at least €1,000 per month” to cover expenses, the city is “the safest student city in Germany and ranks third in quality of life,” according to the report. The city currently holds a significant portion of the 55,291 international students in Germany.

Munich is home to 20 universities, of which the most prominent are Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.

Following Munich is Aachen in second place and Cologne in third place.

Moroccan nationals make up the 13 largest group of international students in Germany, with 7,045 students enrolled in German universities in the 2022/2023 school year.

Over the past few years, Germany has gradually become one of the leading countries for Moroccan students to study abroad. In 2022, the country was the second top study-abroad destination for Moroccan students, only second to France.

Moroccans received the highest number of student visas from Germany in 2022 with 1,357 student visas.

Meanwhile, Data from Studying-in-Germany.org suggests that the number of Moroccans studying in Germany jumped by 54% rising from 4,012 to 6,195 students between 2020 and 2021.

One reason for Germany’s popularity as a study-abroad destination is the possibility for students to work part-time jobs. Under German law, students are allowed to work a full-time job for 120 days or part-time for 240 half days.
