Former Moroccan Footballer Abderrahim Ouakili Dies at 53

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced today that former Moroccan international player Abderrahim Ouakili died on December 18 at the age of 53.

Rabat – The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced today that former Moroccan international player Abderrahim Ouakili died on December 18 at the age of 53.

The federation extended condolences to the late footballer’s family as well as to the national footballing family of Morocco in a statement.

Born in 1970 in Rabat, Ouakili began his football career with Fath Union Sports (FUS) before moving to Europe and playing for several clubs there.

The late footballer represented the Moroccan national team in the 90s. In 1998, he participated in the World Cup in France with the Atlas Lions, and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Burkina Faso.

In twelve appearances with the national team, Ouakili scored two goals.

He joined German club TGM MS in the 1993-94 season. He moved to FSV Mainz in 1994 and scored 27 goals in 97 games, until he left in 1997.

His talent led him to TSV Munich 1860, where he spent two years, scoring six goals in 40 games. In the 1999-2000 season, Ouakili played for Hertha Berlin, playing 25 games and scoring six goals. 

He returned to Mainz in 2001 and played 16 games, scoring five goals. 

He ended his career in Karlsruher SC, where he played 45 games and scored three goals.
