Rabat – Moroccan Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, has announced the launch of an online platform for citizenship application management.

The official said in a press release this week that the platform is developed by internal competencies, and is meant to provide new digital solutions to resolve various deficiencies that citizens face in the application process. Some of the noted difficulties include having to go through frequent court visits in order to submit follow-ups during the application process.

The statement further adds that the ministry has been working on developing a “new generation” of judicial and administrative services, in collaboration with all actors of the justice system, and led by the Supreme Council of the Judicial Power and the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The ministry is equally collaborating with legal and judicial professionals, as well as employees of the public administrative sector and private entities to digitize the judicial system.

“The service provided online and through a mobile application, facilitates the procedures of obtaining a Moroccan citizenship certificate and of following up on the status of the application,” the statement explains. The initiative is the culmination of the Ministry’s involvement in the digitization process.

The news comes less than a year after the justice ministry launched and announced digitizing a number of judicial services covering four areas of judicial administration. These include criminal records,  the database of judicial staff -including notaries, experts, and translators – and payments for traffic fines.

In addition, the ministry announced a hotline service for better communication between the citizens and all the authorities within the judicial system.

In recent years, Morocco made significant strides towards digitizing administrative services. In 2021, the country established a ministry solely dedicated to reforming the public administration and overseeing digital transformation.
