Rabat – The Israeli Occupation Forces on Thursday targeted a civil defense center in the town of Hanin, in southern Lebanon.
The assault resulted in the tragic deaths of two rescuers and the destruction of an ambulance, according to reports from the rescue force associated with the armed group Hezbollah.
The Islamic Health Authority’s civil defense operations room confirmed the casualties, saying that the “direct Israeli bombardment on an emergency center in the town of Hanin” claimed the lives of two male unit members.
Today’s incident adds to the toll of civilians murdered by Israeli shelling in southern Lebanon, which now stands at 25, including children and journalists, Al Jazeera reported.
Over the past three months, since the new cycle of violence in Gaza began on October 7, the region has witnessed an ongoing exchange of fire between the Israeli military and Hezbollah.
The tensions have further escalated following Israel’s assassination of Hamas leader Saleh al-Arouri in the suburbs of Beirut, with Hezbollah vowing retaliation for the attack.
According to Al Jazeera, at least 140 Hezbollah fighters have lost their lives, along with nine Israeli troops on the border.
In the wake of recent Israeli attacks in Lebanon, US Special Envoy Amos Hochstein has emphasized the crucial need for a diplomatic resolution to quell the escalating tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border.
“I’m hopeful that we can continue to work on this effort to arrive together, all of us on both sides of the border, with a solution that will allow for all people in Lebanon and Israel to live with guaranteed security and return to a better future,” Hochstein told reporters after meeting Lebanese officials.
