Rabat – The Swedish Embassy in Morocco published a post on its official Facebook page on Wednesday comparing “Neo,” the recently unveiled Moroccan-made car, to the Swedish car “Luvly.”

In an effort to promote ecologically friendly cars, the post humorously highlighted both the brands at the same time, quipping: “Have you ever imagined that one day you would buy a car and receive it in flat cartons, like a piece of furniture at IKEA?”

The concept was developed by Swedish light vehicle manufacturer Luvly with a focus on sustainability. In an effort to reduce CO2 emissions, their debut model, Luvly O, is a lightweight electric car with an IKEA-inspired flattened shape.

The ready-to-assemble vehicle weighs less than 450 kilograms and has a top speed of 90 kilometers per hour.

On the other hand, Neo Motors, Morocco’s leading carmaker, produced the recyclable and locally built Neo car model, which is regarded as the first car made entirely of Moroccan materials with a Moroccan capital.

The Neo Motors firm held a symbolic delivery ceremony for the first “Neo” car models at the start of December 2023, as a formal launch of the car’s public marketing campaign.

In a statement to the media, the company’s general manager, Nassim Belkhayat, described the vehicle as boasting three doors, a folding roof, and a spacious 350-liter trunk, produced with a 65% local manufacturing rate.

The car is intended for use as a means of transportation in the city center, for traveling, and in rural areas, he added.

Belkhayat revealed that the car’s price ranges between MAD 170,000 ($17,000) and MAD 190,000 ($19,000), noting that this is the most affordable pricing for a car of this kind.

He went on to say that the factory that produces it has a yearly manufacturing capacity of more than three thousand units.

Located in the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region’s Ain Aouda, the production hub is housed in the industrial unit that Neo Motors developed.
