Rabat – Tanzania’s Football Federation announced relieving Algerian coach Adel Amrouche on Friday a few hours after the African Football Federation (CAF) suspended him for eight matches and fined him $10,000.

During a televised interview on Algerian TV earlier this week, the coach accused the Moroccan federation of using its influence within CAF to secure more favorable playing time slots for the Moroccan national team.

The Tanzanian Federation announced the decision in an official statement on X, adding that Hemed Morocco has been appointed as the Acting Coach, with Juma Mgunda as his assistant.

“Currently, the FRMF is a confirmed power in the African football world; in the last match against Morocco, they forced us to play in the evening when we wanted to play in the early afternoon,” Amrouche claimed.

He went on to allege that Morocco has long influenced or determined major decisions in the highest echelons of African football’s governing body, including the choice of referees.

His statement triggered widespread backlash from football fans and analysts across the African continent, prompting the Tanzania Football Federation to swiftly distance itself from Amrouche’s statements, saying they were “unacceptable.”

Wallace Karia, President of Tanzania’s federation, was quoted by Tanzanian media as stressing that Zambia’s footballing authorities “categorically” opposed the Algerian coach’s Morocco-bashing comments.

“We categorically do not endorse this statement, as we respect Morocco for its hard work in the development of football, and we will know how to respond to the coach’s reckless and provocative statement,” he said.
