Rabat – According to Saudi media reports, the Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has urged Muslim residents to look into the sighting of the crescent moon ahead of the holy month of Ramadan on the evening of March 10, which corresponds to Shaban 29 on the Islamic calendar.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia also announced that the official date for the sighting of the moon of Ramadan will take place on Sunday, March 10, the last day of the month of Shaban,” 5lejnews reported on Sunday.
The court also calls on those who see the crescent moon with the naked eye or through binoculars to inform the nearest court and register their testimony, or contact the nearest center to help them reach the nearest court.
The sighting of the crescent moon is an important Islamic event that occurs before Ramadan and marks the beginning of the holy month. The date of the crescent moon sighting can also be predicted by astronomical calculations.
In several Muslim nations, dedicated committees monitor the crescent moon sighting date for Ramadan, which occurs on the final day of the month of Shaban, after sunset.
If the crescent is clearly visible, authorities of the country in question announce the beginning of Ramadan, but if the crescent cannot be clearly seen, the following day marks the full month of Shaban and Ramadan begins the day after.
