Rabat – In a diplomatic mission aimed at strengthening ties between Morocco and the Canadian province of New Brunswick, Souriya Otmani, Moroccan ambassador to Canada, engaged in a series of high-level meetings with key officials during her visit to Fredericton, the provincial capital.
During discussions held on the sidelines of an official visit of French-speaking ambassadors accredited to Ottawa from February 12th to 15th, Otmani met with Bill Hogan, minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, along with two deputy ministers, Ryan Donaghy and Julie Mason, from the same department, as per a statement from the Moroccan Embassy.
The talks primarily focused on potential partnerships in education between Morocco and the Canadian province, reflecting both parties’ commitment to enhancing educational opportunities.
Additionally, Otmani convened with Greg Turner, minister responsible for Economic Development, Small Business, Immigration, and officials from “Opportunities New Brunswick,” focusing on exploring economic and commercial investment prospects in Morocco.
Highlighting the diversity of discussions, Otmani also met with Tammy Scott Wallace, minister of Tourism, Heritage, and Culture, who expressed interest in forging partnerships with Morocco in the tourism sector, underlining the potential for mutual growth in this industry.

Furthermore, discussions extended to exploring avenues to enhance awareness of Morocco’s cultural and tourist attractions in New Brunswick, emphasizing the shared commitment to promoting cultural exchange and tourism between the two regions.
Otmani engaged with members of the Moroccan community residing in Moncton and Fredericton, including students and professors from the University of Moncton, the sole French-speaking university in the province.
In discussions with members of the Association of Moroccans in New Brunswick, participants underscored their satisfaction with the increasingly digitized consular services and annual mobile consulate initiatives.
New Brunswick, one of Canada’s eastern maritime provinces, renowned for its rivers, pine forests, mountains, and the Bay of Fundy, stands as a promising ground for further collaboration between Morocco and Canada.
