Rabat – Morocco’s biggest music festival is returning in June 2024 after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 outbreak that triggered a nationwide lockdown.

The 19th annual festival will take place in Rabat between June 21 and 29. The event features a list of national and international artists.

Mawazine welcomed nearly three million attendees in 2018, making it one of the world’s biggest music festivals.

Nearly 90% of the shows in the festival are open access, which attracts hoards of music fans across the country, boosting national tourism.

The festival’s organizers first announced its return in February 2023, stressing that Magazine’s mission is to democratize access to culture.

In addition to spotlighting national artists, Mawazine features music from across Africa, the MENA region, and around the globe.

The festival has become more international in recent years, hosting global musical icons like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and The Weekend. Previous festivals also featured Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, DJ Khaled, and David Guetta.

In 2019, the 18th annual Mawazine Festival attracted a sweeping 2,750,000 attendees coming to see the 200 artists who performed across the festival’s six stages.

The Mawazine Festival-Rhythms of the World launched in 2001 to encourage cultural tolerance, openness, respect, and dialogue.

Behind the festival is the Maroc Cultures Association, a non-profit organization also founded in 2001. With its two main events being the Mawazine Festival and the youth music contest Generation Mawazine, the organization says its mission is to provide cultural experiences throughout Morocco.
