Rabat – A tragic road accident occurred Tuesday morning on the road linking the Moroccan town of Oulad Teima and the city of Taroudant, located 70 kilometers east of Agadir.
A vehicle used to transport agricultural workers overturned, claiming the lives of two individuals – a male and a female worker – and leaving at least ten others injured, according to local reports.
The accident occurred near the “Bouassida” roundabout in the Sidi Ahmed Ou Omar municipality.
Converging reports said that the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the pickup truck, which was carrying more than 16 agricultural workers involved in lemon harvesting. They were likely being transported to their work location at the time of the accident.
Local authorities, including the Royal Gendarmerie, swiftly responded to the scene following the accident. Ambulances from the civil protection service and neighboring municipalities transported the injured individuals to the regional hospital, Cheikh Mohamed Soussi, in Taroudant.
Authorities have launched an investigation, under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor’s office, to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident. Meanwhile, the bodies of the victims have been transferred to the morgue.
Locals took to social media to express concern about the recurring deadly accidents involving agricultural workers in the Souss-Massa region.
Many raised concerns about the transportation conditions, saying that they are “inhumane” and lack supervision from authorities.
They highlighted the need for accountability and improved safety measures to prevent such tragedies from happening inthe future.
