Rabat – Hangyu Technology, a Chinese aerospace components manufacturer, is relocating a planned production base from Slovakia to Morocco after new administrative procedures delayed the original project, according to Chinese media.

The company plans to invest up to €105 million ($121 million) in the project, which it initially approved in February for Slovakia’s Košice region. Hangyu Technology has now scrapped the Slovak project and plans to close its subsidiary there after Slovak authorities introduced additional administrative review procedures during the project’s preparation.

The company said the new procedures extended the approval process and created uncertainty around the project’s timeline.

Hangyu Technology will instead develop the production base in Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City. The facility will include a forging production line and supporting industrial facilities for aerospace components.

The Morocco project remains in its early preparation stage. Hangyu Technology still needs to complete China’s overseas investment procedures as well as construction permits and company registration requirements in Morocco.

Hangyu Technology will develop the Morocco project through its subsidiary, Sichuan Delan Aviation Technology Development. Delan will establish a wholly owned subsidiary in Morocco to oversee the project, while Hangyu plans to provide about $42 million in funding.

The company  produces high-end forgings and precision components for aerospace engines, gas turbines and other industrial applications. Its international customers include major aerospace and engine manufacturers such as GE Aerospace, Safran, Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney and Honeywell.

The Morocco project comes as the country expands its aerospace manufacturing base. Morocco’s aerospace sector now includes around 160 companies and employs about 25,000 people, with annual exports reaching roughly $3 billion. Industry group GIMAS expects exports to rise to $5 billion within the next three years.

The country has also attracted major international aerospace companies, including Safran, which launched an aircraft landing systems plant in Nouaceur in 2026.

The investment also adds to growing economic ties between Morocco and China. The two countries established a strategic partnership in 2016 and signed a memorandum on cooperation under China’s Belt and Road Initiative in 2017. They agreed on a cooperation plan under the initiative in 2022.

Chinese officials said bilateral trade between Morocco and China exceeded $10 billion in 2025, making China Morocco’s third-largest trading partner and its largest trading partner in Asia.

The two countries have continued to expand cooperation across sectors including infrastructure, renewable energy, electric mobility and artificial intelligence.
