Fez – Morocco’s President of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, announced Saturday in Nouakchott the launch of a Morocco-Mauritania Parliamentary Forum aimed to strengthen the relations between the two countries.
The head of the House of Representatives was visiting Nouakchott on an official visit at the head of a large parliamentary delegation, held February 9-10, at the invitation of his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Ould Meguett.
Following his talks with Mauritanian Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Bilal, El Alami shared in a statement that l the Moroccan Parliament and the Mauritanian National Assembly have decided to create a Joint Parliamentary Forum to consolidate their strategic relations.
The meeting that resulted in this decision was also attended by members of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation and the Moroccan ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar.
This Joint Parliamentary forum, which will be held alternately each year in Rabat and Nouakchott, will be an opportunity to discuss issues of common interest and to establish partnerships. Leaders from different sectors, politicians and businessmen will be invited to the event.
El Alami also had talks with the President of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Bamba Meguet, which reportedly focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation.
Besides El Alami, the Moroccan delegation was composed of presidents of various political groups. This included Mohamed Ghayat of the National Rally of Independents Group, Nourdin Moudian of the Istiqlal Group for Unity and Egalitarianism, Abderrahim Chahid of the Socialist Group, Chaoui Belassa of the Democratic and Social Constitutional Group, Rachid Hammouni of the Progress and Socialism Group, and Abdellah Bouanou of the Justice and Development Group.
The working visit aimed to strengthen cooperative ties between the two legislative institutions, and was an opportunity for parliamentary members to exchange experiences and discuss issues of common interest.
Discussing shared areas for growth, Morocco’s delegation highlighted continued efforts for collaboration within economic, cultural, educational, and technical sectors.
In previous visits, Moroccan and Mauritanian representatives have expressed their willingness to further strengthen cooperation in trade and investment, industry and tourism, housing, environment and sustainable development, culture, security, health, agriculture, fishing, and vocational training.
