Rabat – Belgian football club Sporting Charleroi has announced the signing of Moroccan international player Achraf Dari on loan from French club Stade Brestois until the end of the current season.
After facing challenges securing a spot in the starting lineup at Brest, Dari opted for professional experience abroad and agreed to a short-term loan move to Charleroi without an option to buy his contract.
The loan agreement spans a period of 5 months, set to conclude on June 30, 2024.
Dari made his professional debut with Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca during the 2018-2019 season, before making the switch to Stade Brestois in the summer of 2022.
During his time with the French club, he featured in 24 matches, primarily in the previous season, but has been sidelined for most of the current season.
The 24-year-old defender’s decision to join Charleroi comes as he seeks more playing time and an opportunity to contribute to the team’s success in the Belgian Pro League.
In his career thus far, Dari has accumulated 164 professional club appearances across all competitions, with 12 goals and 2 assists.
In addition to his club performances, Dari has earned international recognition representing the Moroccan national team on several occasions. He made eight appearances with the U17 team, five with the U20s, four with the U23s, and seven for the senior national team.
The footballer played a crucial role in Morocco’s historic journey during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, contributing with 3 appearances and a goal.
The Moroccan-born player is set to “reinforce the Zebras’ defense for the remainder of the season,” Charleroi said in a statement.
The club currently occupies the 11th position in the league standings with 24 points, comprising 6 victories, 6 draws, and 11 defeats.
Founded in 1904, Charleroi is considered one of the oldest football clubs in Belgium.
