Rabat – An image purportedly depicting King Mohammed VI has been circulating on social media platforms in recent days, sparking thousands of interactions and shares.
However, it has come to light that the image is not authentic but rather a product of digital design and artificial intelligence.
The image, which showed King Mohammed VI in formal attire, was falsely claimed by Moroccan pages and social media users to have been recently distributed by the royal palace.
Moroccan photographer and designer Taha Houssaini confirmed that he created the photo using photo editing software and artificial intelligence.
He originally shared the image on his Instagram account with a caption expressing his love and respect for King Mohammed VI.
But after many people shared the image as authentic, Houssini modified the caption to clarify that he designed the photo and that it is not an actual photograph.
“This image is not recent, as some pages have claimed. Additionally, I do not authorize any newspaper or magazine to publish it as an exclusive or new photo. Rather, it is a modification from my creative work, as I work in this field,” the caption read.
The image gained traction on various social media platforms, with artists and public figures in Morocco sharing it widely under the assumption that it was real.
The revelation of the truth about the image being AI-generated has sparked a debate about the ethical considerations surrounding AI technology.
Many expressed concern about the idea of digitally manipulating images of the king and suggested that such actions may not be appropriate even if done out of admiration.
Others spoke about the potential dangers of AI and the implications of its misuse in creating false content, particularly when it comes to influential figures like heads of state.
