Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) issued a red-level meteorological alert bulletin on Saturday, warning of heavy rain and strong winds across multiple provinces in the country.
According to the DGM, several regions are set to see very intense locally thunderous rains surpassing 120 millimeters, strong gusts of wind, and local dust storms reaching speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour.
The list of Provinces affected includes Chefchaouen, Tetouan, Larache, Al Hoceima, and Tanger-Asilah are likely to experience heavy rains from Saturday at 11:30 a.m. until Sunday midnight.
Rainfall accumulation in some parts of the Rif region could exceed 120 millimeters, posing significant risks of flooding and other weather-related hazards.
In addition, the DGM forecasted orange-level alerts for provinces such as Ouezzane, Fahs-Anjra, M’diq-Fnideq, Kenitra, Taounate, and Taza, where rainfall ranging from 30 to 60 millimeters is expected during the same period.
In addition, rainfall ranging between 30 to 50 millimeters is anticipated in provinces including Khemisset, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Rabat, Sale, Skhirat-Temara, Benslimane, Mohammedia, Mediouna, Casablanca, Nouaceur, Berrechid, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Khenifra, and Ifrane, on Saturday from noon to 9:00 p.m.
In addition to heavy rainfall, DGM warns of strong gusts of wind and local dust storms. The directorate issued an orange-level alert for provinces such as Boulemane, Sefrou, Ifrane, Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Driouch, Taza, Guercif, Fahs-Anjra, Larache, Tanger-Asilah, Tetouan, Ouezzane, M’diq-Fnideq, Nador, Taourirt, Oujda Angad, Berkane, Jerada, Figuig, Taounate, Moulay Yacoub, Fès, Meknes, El Hajeb, effective from Saturday at 11:30 a.m. until Sunday at 11:00 p.m.
The alert extends to other provinces, including Rabat, Khemisset, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Skhirat-Temara, Sale, Sidi Slimane, Fqih Bensaleh, Khenifra, Beni Mellal, Khouribga, Azilal, Sidi Bennour, Mohammadia, Nouaceur, El Jadida, Casablanca, Médiouna, Berrechid, Benslimane, Settat, Marrakech, Essaouira, Chichaoua, El Haouz, Rhamna, El Kelaa Des Sraghna, Youssoufia, Safi, Tinghir, Errachidia, Zagora, Ouarzazate, Midelt, and Tata.
