Morocco Announces Second Chance for Driving License Exam Takers

Rabat – Minister of Transport and Logistics Mohamed Abdeljalil announced today that candidates who failed in the first driving license exam will be given a second chance.

“Those who took the test last Monday will be given another chance to take it without counting the first chance,” the minister stated.

The minister defended the recently implemented driving license exam system in a press conference following the Cabinet meeting today.

During his speech, the minister emphasized that the new system is a component of the broader reform of the educational system.

Abdeljalil said that this new method is part of the five major pillars of the 2017-2026 national road safety policy, which includes the human factor pillar. This pillar consists of three workshops: sensitization, training, and monitoring.

After two years of work inside the National Road Safety Agency and a year of negotiations with driving education institutions, the minister said that this workshop was inaugurated last Monday in order to execute the national plan, which was launched in 2020.

According to Abdeljalil, the agency has created a training platform that driving schools may utilize to enhance the training of examiners, meaning that this system is more than simply a test for a driver’s license.

Abdeljalil went on to say that the purpose of all these initiatives is to educate drivers on the source of the laws pertaining to driving and the road, their own driving responsibilities, and the variables that impact road safety.

Another goal is to minimize the number of traffic accidents in Morocco. However, “we have not yet reached this goal,” the minister stressed, highlighting that the national road safety policy sought to reduce the number of deaths on Morocco’s roads by 50%.

“This is not the Morocco we want,” the minister stated, referring to “the Kingdom’s road safety ranking, which places it either in the second half worldwide or on top of the last third.”

The minister urged serious efforts to expedite the implementation and evaluation of the national road safety strategy. The relevant agency is presently conducting an assessment study to address the shortcomings noted during the strategy’s initial phase while adhering to the objective of halving the number of traffic fatalities.

After Abdeljalil highlighted how difficult it would be to meet the first strategy’s target of halving the number of fatal traffic accidents by 2026, the ministry expects to accomplish this objective by 2030.

Supervisors and executives of driving schools in Morocco became irritated on Monday as a result of an almost global failure of applicants in the country’s driving license exam.

The delay in releasing the new question bank from NARSA, the exam’s regulatory authority, from March 18 to March 25 is what caused the 99% failure rate, according to a report from state channel 2M.

The scandal was heightened by widely disseminated photos depicting purportedly challenging questions about drinking and driving.

NARSA stated that these photos were made up and untrue, stressing that these kinds of questions weren’t included in the recently introduced driver’s license exam.

NARSA issued a warning about possible legal action being taken against anybody who disseminated false information about the exam’s content.
