Marrakech – In a bid to further engage its expansive user base of over 600 million, Spotify is diversifying its content offerings.
The music streaming behemoth is set to introduce a novel line of content, stepping beyond its traditional boundaries into the realm of e-learning, the website TechCrunch reported.
Embarking on a trial phase, Spotify (click here) is launching its online education initiative, beginning with a rollout in the United Kingdom.
Collaborating with esteemed partners such as the BBC and Skillshare, Spotify aims to offer users a diverse array of educational content through its “Courses” initiative.
Under this model, users can access at least two lessons for free, with the option to purchase complete courses at prices ranging from £20 to £80 on average.
Notably, Spotify is adopting a uniform pricing strategy, irrespective of whether users have basic or premium subscriptions, at least during the initial phase of this venture.
Mohit Jitani, the product director for Spotify’s education business based in London, emphasized in an interview that pricing strategies are among the elements being rigorously tested before potential broader implementation.
“With this launch, we’re trying to understand the demand first,” Jitani explained. “Then we optimize how we can make it more compelling and exciting.”
According to the website, the new educational content is set to be seamlessly integrated into the platform’s interface, accessible through both Spotify’s home and browse tabs, designated under “Courses.”
Users can access these offerings not only via the web but also through the Spotify mobile app, ensuring convenience and accessibility across devices.
Positioned at the intersection of platforms like YouTube, MasterClass, and LinkedIn Learning, the courses on offer cater to a diverse range of interests and skill levels.
Covering a broad spectrum of topics, from music production to Excel proficiency, the catalog aims to appeal to a wide audience seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Moreover, the platform intends to empower individuals to become “education creators,” offering lessons on designing online learning modules.
Courses will debut with an impressive lineup of partners, each specializing in distinct educational niches.
Skillshare will cater to creatives, offering a range of courses tailored to artistic pursuits.
PLAYvirtuoso will focus on the music industry, providing in-depth insights and tutorials for aspiring musicians and industry professionals.
BBC Maestro will offer a MasterClass-style experience, while Thinkific will empower users to transform their newfound skills into online learning classes of their own.
