Rabat – Brahim Diaz, who played his first game with Morocco’s national football team on Friday, opened up about his exhilarating debut with the Atlas Lions, expressing his delight and gratitude for the overwhelming support he received.

In an interview with Marca, the Real Madrid midfielder, who played a significant role throughout the match, described his debut as “a very special day,” emphasizing the outpouring of affection he received from fans and family alike.

The 24-year-old playmaker Diaz said: “I am proud because, furthermore, I felt very good on the field and it was a very nice debut.” His family members, including his two grandmothers, were present at the stadium.

“The whole family that came was very emotional. It’s nice to receive that affection,” he said.

“I thank His Majesty King Mohammed VI. I am very grateful for everything he does for football and for the support he always gives to the country,” Diaz stated.

Looking ahead, Diaz expressed his eagerness to represent Morocco in upcoming tournaments, including the Olympics in Paris, the Africa Cup in 2025, and the World Cups in 2026 and 2030.

“I will try to be in everything possible and… in everything they let me too,” he stressed. “Whatever I can contribute on the field, I will be happy to do it.”

The interview followed Morocco’s friendly match against Angola, where the Atlas Lions thrilled viewers with a stunning performance leading to their 1-0 victory.

Brahim Diaz and Eliesse Ben Seghir both stole the spotlight yesterday, impressing throughout the game with multiple on-goal shots.

The Friday match marked a revival in performance for the Atlas Lions, after their early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which had left fans disappointed.

The Atlas Lions were among the favorites to win the African tournament after their stellar run in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. But a shock defeat to South Africa in the round of 16 has left Morocco even more in need of a commanding performance to win the upcoming AFCON on home soil.
