Rabat – Oumayma Bel Ahbib, a Moroccan gold medalist boxer launched an online fundraising campaign to finance her training ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics Games where she will be presenting Morocco.
Launched earlier this week on Leetchi.com, the fundraising set a target of €10,000. The fundraising campaign aims to secure sponsorships and partnerships to finance Bel Ahbib’s upcoming training camps and tournaments, which are vital for her preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The funds will cover various expenses, including travel, medical treatments, mental preparation, equipment, and nutrition.
In 2021, Bel Ahbib was also the flag bearer, alongside surfer Ramzi Boukhiam, for the Moroccan delegation.
Despite juggling her rigorous training schedule with academic pursuits, she has always remained steadfast in her goal of clinching an Olympic medal for her country.
“I believe in myself, but I also trust in the generosity and solidarity of others to support me during this critical period,” Bel Ahbib wrote on the fundraising website.
Bel Ahbib has been named Vice World Champion in kickboxing and multiple-time champion in Morocco.
Not just in the Moroccan sphere, she has participated in prestigious events such as the African Games and the Mediterranean Games.
The track record of this 27-year-old boxer includes accolades such as winning the Gold Medal at the African Championship in Brazzaville in Congo in 2017, and a Gold Medal at the Zone 3 African Championship in Gabon in 2019.
In 2023, she had a stellar run, winning a silver medal at the Montana Tournament in Paris, and at the International Tournament in Serbia. She also won a silver medal at the Arab Championship in Algiers, the African Championship in Cameroon, and the International Tournament in Sweden in 2023.
Sharing her goals, the young athlete said on the fundraising pages that she will be using the funds to finance training camps in Belgium and Spain in March, as well as her participation in the International Tournament and training camp in Italy.
In May, she will also attend a training camp in the United States, an international tournament, in addition to advanced training in Bangkok.
The athlete further explained that a large sum of funds raised would be used to cover her travel expenses, various treatments, appointments for both mental and physical preparation, equipment, and nutritional needs.
