Rabat – Innovx, a company affiliated with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), recently announced the launch of a new venture, Hydrojeel, dedicated to investing in green hydrogen and green ammonia.
Hydrojeel’s primary objective is to establish itself as a key global player in the field of green hydrogen and green ammonia, Innovx said in a statement.
I added that the subsidiary is expected to spearhead innovative and large-scale projects that leverage proprietary technologies and solutions developed through collaborative efforts.
Commenting on the creation of the new subsidiary, Amine Houssaim, CEO of Hydrojeel, emphasized the significance of the milestone. “The creation of Hydrojeel marks a major step in our commitment to meeting the energy transition challenge and contributing to a sustainable future,” he said.
“With Hydrojeel, we are positioning ourselves at the forefront of innovation in the field of green hydrogen and green ammonia, reinforcing our leadership in renewable energies, and opening new paths for growth for our company and for our country.”
One of Hydrojeel’s initiatives involves the development of the Green Ammonia Program for the OCP Group, with a primary focus on producing sustainable plant nutrition solutions.
The program is set to mobilize substantial investments in the advancement of green hydrogen production technologies and processes, facilitating long-term capacity building.
Sourcing ammonia from green hydrogen is part of OCP’s plan to reduce reliance on imported ammonia, a key ingredient in the manufacturing of fertilizers.

In 2023, the phosphate giant announced its plans to invest $7 billion in the construction of an ammonia plant in Tarfaya that will use green hydrogen produced from renewable sources.
Securing locally sourced ammonia will enable OCP Group to reach its ambitious future production goals. The company notably aims to produce 200,000 tons of green ammonia by 2030 and one million tons by 2034.
The group also plans to expand production to reach a total output of three million tons by 2032. Ultimately, OCP wants to phase out gas-based ammonia 100%.
In December 2022, OCP unveiled its colossal $13-billion green investment plan for the following four years (2023-2027). The ambitious plan notably showcased OCP’s commitment to increase production of and invest in new green fertilizers and renewable energy sources.
In addition to sourcing ammonia from green hydrogen, the company plans to power its industrial facilities using only green energy by 2027.
