Rabat – Turkiye’s Directorate of Religious Affairs announced today that Monday, March 11 will mark the first day of Ramadan.

“We are in the joy and excitement of reaching the month of Ramadan, the season of abundance and forgiveness,” Director of Religious Affairs, Ali Erbaş, wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

In the post, Erbaş shared with his followers that Sunday night will see the first tarawih and the first Sahur.

“We express endless praise to God Almighty for bringing us together again with this holy season,” the post reads.

Sharing his best wishes with Muslims everywhere, Erbaş wrote: “We pray to God Almighty that the month of mercy, Ramadan, will bring peace and tranquility to our country, our nation, the Islamic world, and all humanity.”

He further called on Muslims to “take full advantage of the climate of mercy of the holy Ramadan and pray to the Almighty God to end the suffering, systematic massacre, torture, and harassment in various parts of the world, especially in Palestine and East Turkestan.”

As the crescent moon marks the beginning of Ramadan, Istanbul comes alive with fervor and anticipation. The bustling streets of the historic city witness a spike in activity as residents and visitors alike prepare to observe the holiest month in Islam.

At the start of Ramadan, decorations adorn the historical mosques, casting a radiant glow upon the cityscape, while the faithful gather for prayers and worship.

In the heart of Istanbul lies the Fatih district, where the famous Fatih Mosque stands as an icon of spirituality, drawing worshippers for Taraweeh prayers and Quranic recitations.
