Rabat – The National Highway Company of Morocco (ADM) has issued a warning to highway users, urging travelers using the Taza-Oujda highways to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant.
The warning comes hours after the General Directorate of Meteorology issued an orange warning anticipating strong gusts of wind coupled with local dust storms in a number of provinces across Morocco.
In a statement released today, ADM emphasized the need for vigilance, urging highway users to stay informed about prevailing traffic conditions before embarking on their journeys.
For those seeking real-time traffic information or assistance, ADM recommends contacting their helpline at 5050 or using the ADM Traffic application.
ADM further announced in the statement that it is in a state of total vigilance and has mobilized its teams and those of its partners operating on the highway network to ensure the safety of highway users.
Earlier today, the General Directorate of Meteorology said that wind speeds will range between 75-85 kilometers per hour, and will be coupled with local dust storms on Sunday in several provinces in Morocco.
The DGM expects the weather events to take place between midnight and 11 p.m. the following day.
Provinces expected to be impacted include Jerada, Figuig, Nador, Taourirt, Guercif, Boulemane, and Taza.
Dust storms have previously caused extensive property damage and casualties.
Last month, a 29-year-old woman tragically lost her life in Tangier, in a devastating accident where part of a residential building’s facade collapsed due to strong winds.
In August 2023, a strong wind storm caused a tree to fall on an 18-year-old, who died of his injuries.
