If confirmed, the sighting of the crescent moon on Sunday night will mark the next day, Monday, as the start of the holly month of Ramadan.
According to early astronomical predictions, Ramadan 2024 will begin on Tuesday, March 12 in Morocco. Predictions suggest that countries like Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations, will begin fasting on March 11.
This year, experts predict that Moroccans will observe a 29-day fast.
Other countries like Saudi Arabia are expected to carry out the crescent moon sighting for Ramadan on Sunday as well.
Ramadan holds a special place in Moroccan culture, with unique traditions and culinary delights marking the month-long observance.
Beyond the culinary indulgence, Ramadan marks an increase in religious devotion. Evenings are marked by special prayers known as Taraweeh, drawing men and women of all ages to mosques across the country.
During Ramadan, Muslims equally engage in more charitable activities to increase their religious devotion. Business activities slow down in the morning, administrations close early, and activity only resumes after the Taraweeh prayers at night.
